Reggae Social - Christmas Special!  The fifth in a series of monthly events, showcasing and celebrating reggae music in all its forms - from ska and rocksteady to roots and dub.  This will be our last social until March 2018, so come and have a skank with us.

THURSDAY 2ND NOVEMBER: DAWN PENN

It gives us great pleasure to announce that legendary reggae artist, Dawn Penn, will be returning to Liverpool on 2nd November, when she performs as part of Liverpool Music Week.

One of the original queens of reggae music, Penn released her first single “When I’m Gonna Be Free” in 1966, followed in 1967 by rocksteady favourite, "You Don't Love Me" - produced by Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. Re-recorded and released in 1994, "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)" has become one of reggae's most iconic and celebrated songs.

SATURDAY 21ST OCTOBER: BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH & THE REVOLUTIONARY MINDS

Pioneering dub poet, writer, social commentator and music maker, Benjamin Zephaniah has teamed up with renowned producer & engineer, The Sea, to create the incredibly timely album (and band) - 'Revolutionary Minds'.

The event is part of Writing on the Wall's Black History Month Festival and has been supported by the Liverpool Mayor's Fund and Culture Liverpool

FRIDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER: Horace Andy w/ Mafia & Fluxy ft. Matic Horns

On Friday 1st September, we welcome ‘the sweetest voice in Jamaica’ to the greatest city on earth.

The legendary singer, songwriter and long-term collaborator of Massive Attack, Horace Andy, will be performing a special show at District, with support from the mighty, Mafia & Fluxy ft Matic Horns.

Arguably one of the most influential and respected artists to come out of Jamaica, Horace Andy learnt his trade alongside some of reggae's finest producers, including Coxsone Dodd, Scientist and Sly & Robbie.

FRIDAY 18TH AUGUST: BIG YOUTH & THE UPPER CUT BAND

On Friday 18th August, we welcome one of reggae's greatest and most unique performers to Liverpool - Big Youth.

The legendary DJ, toaster & recording artist will be accompanied by the UK's finest roots reggae backing band, The Upper Cut Band.

Support comes from dub poet, Levi Tafari and Africa Oyé DJs - Marley & Vegas.

You're in for an absolute treat. This will be Big Youth's only North West gig.
